Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 13 | May 26, 2022 5:21 PM |
He was a regular at a restaurant I worked at a million years ago. He'd grab a coffee there nearly every morning. He was very gruff, but a sweetheart underneath that exterior.
Fun fact: He had a daughter who looked just like Lindsay Lohan and a sweet little school girl crush on me (according to Ray). Ray would embarrass her about it whenever the three of us were in the same room.
RIP.

Damn, I was just watching “Heartbreakers” from my hotel room. The scene where he’s tied up in bed was so hot. He had a great body in the early 2000s. Had to be pushing 40 something when that movie came out. Loved his voice, his mannerisms, and general screen presence. He will be missed.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 26, 2022 5:44 PM |
Noooooooo….
Maybe it’s a generational thing, but as a child of the 90’s he somehow became someone I loved to see on screen. Unlawful Entry was one of my favorite movies, and when I got older, I thoroughly enjoyed him in Goodfellas. I think part of my affection for him stems from the fact he did the voice of the protagonist in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (which is only one of the best video games of all time).
RIP, Ray 😭

I met him when I was a very young teen while I was working and I was so busy trying to keep cool and not make a big deal I ended up being such an asshole to him. No idea why, snarky things just flew out my mouth (like limiting the number of samples) which was not a rule at all. He was so kind, so was his wife and I always thought maybe I would get to meet him again one day and tell him I was sorry for being an asshole- it was this bizarre star struck reaction I had. IMO, he did look 67. He got some bad plastic surgery a while ago and did look "off" in the Chantix commercial. Just the fact he was doing a Chantix commercial was "off."
That said, I loved him in Goodfellas. So handsome. Loved the scene where he is coked-up, paranoid, and spiraling out of control ... and cooking a pot of sauce at the same time.
He did have the rough skin (acne scars?), but somehow it worked in his favor, IMO.

R54 what happened? Were you trying to appear unimpressed?
I think celebrities typically understand behavioral changes around them. My brother once, at a charity event, met a friend of mine who was once very famous and in some ways still is. He made a real asshole of himself. Really cringe-worthy stuff. He told me about it after (I was not present when they met), and it sounded so bad. But my friend was very sweet and understanding about it. People likely act strangely around famous people fairly often. Also, some people are disinhibited by certain medications, and that can make them pushy and a little obnoxious.

Encounters with celebrities can often cause people to behave really strangely. Dominick Dunne told the story both in his memoirs and (thinly fictionalized) in THE SECOND MRS. GRENVILLE as to how he once was at a party in Hollywood with Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and he was so unnerved by her celebrity and fame that he kept taking photos of her, over and over, until she finally had to request the host to quietly ask him to stop. He was completely mortified by this event for the rest of his life.

Ray Liotta was so talented as an actor that he even made JLo look as if she could act.
JLo's tribute:
"Ray was my partner in crime on Shades of Blue … the first thing that comes to mind is he so was kind to my children," she began her post, which featured a slideshow of photos of the pair together.
She continued, "Ray was the epitome of a tough guy who was all mushy on the inside … I guess that's what made him such a compelling actor to watch. The original Goodfella."

He could've had a heart attack or stroke. As others mentioned, he hasn't looked well for a while now. Some people have little warning signs before it happened and may have just brushed it off since he was on location filming to not disrupt the shooting schedule.

I assume he'd have to pass a physical in order to get insured for the movie he was working on at the time of his death. That's standard practice, especially for older actors.
So it's not clear that he had a long-standing illness. Maybe it really was just a sudden medical event like a heart attack or stroke.

This death came as a shock this morning and is a hard one to grapple. Brilliant actor gone too soon, Ray Liotta made every role (and most of his films) his own. That signature walk of his ... and his laugh! Whew.

[quote] I assume he'd have to pass a physical in order to get insured for the movie he was working on at the time of his death. That's standard practice, especially for older actors.
Those tests are a joke in the industry. The "physical" is nothing more than taking your name, blood pressure, pulse and listening to your heart
Then you get a clean bill of health by a "doctor" - sent to the insurance company

I would think there would be an autopsy if he died this way in the US at his age, absent information from his doctor. In DR it probably won't happen.

Dammit!! There are several actors/actresses that I *know* I'm going to cry about, when they die. I didn't expect Ray Liotta to be one of them, but here I am. 😢
I just watched Goodfellas again, a few weeks ago. Or rather, I should say, the last 30 minutes. As someone said upthread, it's one of those movies that I will stop & watch whenever I come across it, while channel surfing -- even the edited version. R.I.P.

Clint Eastwood girlfriend Sondra Locke was a BIG FAN of Another World and recommended Two actors from the soap to Clint for any upcoming
Ray Liotta & Beverlee McKinsey
Ray could not take the part Clint was offering because of scheduling conflicts (though he was temporarily replaced by Paul Perri when he took time off for a TV Movie)
Beverlee was able to get time off for the Clint Eastwood film "Bronco Billy" - based on a recommendation by Sondra Locke

He may have died of heart disease or a heart attack, hence dying "in his sleep." I had a friend who died like that. She seemingly had no heart trouble, but she was a Christian Scientist, and did not go in for checkups. She may have had chronic high blood pressure. Anyway, she was found in bed, boom, gone, just like that. Maybe that's what happened to Liotta, a sudden heart attack that felled him.

What many do not know is that due to Ray's natural masculine looks and rough-edged allure Ray not only played his own role of Joey Perrini on "Another World" he also played Constance Ford's role of Ada Hobson from 1990-1993 due to her illness, which viewers and a number of cast members never noticed.
That's how talented he was.

There's a perfectly nice photo of Liotta and his wife dining out in the Domincan, two nights before his death. He looks fine, but his skin was always bad and kind of colorless. People who say he had so much plastic surgery seem to overlook that he needed full and multiple chemical peels his whole career. They either didn't work or he didn't have them. He looks like he might have had a tug after 60, but not all worked on like that freak Fonda. He always had those wild eyelashes and next to no lips and pretty eyes and seemed a lot less rough than he looked. Even in films. He played plaintive as well as crazy. But his face kind of cast him in villainy. Very interesting onscreen presence and a good actor. He had some slyness, slickness and lots of street-corner charm. I'm a fan.

Only on DL do people give a fuck about some soap opera from forty fucking years ago. Jesus Christ.

Ray’s soul is eternally young

Any of you bitches ever had him? I know he's straight but he's still an actor.

Here's a nice, long interview with Ray Liotta. He had a fear of death (he said so here & in a Larry King interview). So, dying in his sleep sounds like a nice way to go, for him or anybody.

He must have been very sick. OP's photo indicates serious illness.
Something requiring chemo, perhaps.

[quote]That's a rough looking 67, was he ill?
News flash, as soon as you hit 50 you are rough looking by default.

R287 How funny that you don't think Ray Lotta had a will. How in God's name would you know?

R297 would be surprised at the number of baby boomers who can't for the life of them navigate to a website using a url.

They needed a STUDY to do simple arithmetic?!
Yes, class; people born in 1946, or 1949 like me, pretty much won't make it to 2044. Duh.
But we can tell analog time, r298!

[quote]Deaths of Baby Boomers 'to peak in 2044' study shows – when the post-war generation's women will be 90 and its men 88
The Baby Boomers started in 1946. In 2044 female Boomers will be 88, not 90.

Cher was born in 1946 and will be 98 in 2044.

Will any of the Another World cast be there? What about Vicky Wyndham? Will she be there?

Dammit, where is Richard Bekins' statement? Or Laura Malone's? The silence is deafening.

He died in the Dominican Republic. Isn't that where there have been a lot of odd tourist deaths lately?

Has Kathleen Widdoes commented yet? What is she waiting for? Ray played her son, damnit!
by Anonymous | reply 307 | June 2, 2022 10:34 AM |
Poor Kathleen. She was just getting over the loss of her beloved Lisa Brown, and now Ray! I'm glad she and dear Maeve can share their grief.

Has Susan Lucci commented yet? Yes, they were on different soaps, but Susan and Ray appeared together at our local mall as part of Joyce Becker’s soap opera festival, so and Ray and LaLooch knew each other. Where’s her statement?
by Anonymous | reply 309 | June 2, 2022 3:04 PM |
I once spotted Ray and Beverly Penberthy sharing a cab from the AW studio. Do we know when she will be commenting?

He probably was murdered for insurance money. Sad. I hope a full investigation is pursued.

Its very sad to me. Many of these boomers in my life have died in the 66-68 year old range. All in the last 5 years or so..Very healthy and with decent genetics..
This 88 and 90 year old shit sounds like bull to me.

Has someone started a Larry King thread for Ray?

Daily Stale said that an autopsy will be performed this week and toxicology results soon.
